Parkinson’s Care

Parkinson’s Disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects motor and non-motor functions.  The disease affects the dopamine producing nerve cells in a specific area of the brain.  The motor symptoms include muscle rigidity, tremors, changes in speech, changes in gait and balance problems.  Some non-motor symptoms include anxiety, apathy, depression, personality changes, cognitive impairment (including dementia), sleep disturbances, constipation and the loss of smell. Sometimes people with Parkinson’s will have Lewy Body Dementia with behavioral disturbances. Since there is no cure, treatments are designed to help relieve symptoms.

Texas Angels understands the complexities of caring for clients with Parkinson’s. Our comprehensive program is responsive to the changing physical and behavioral needs with this progressive disease.  In addition to our providing the care listed below, we provide emotional support through relationship building and companionship.

We provide a two pronged approach to caring for clients with Parkinson’s disease: assistance with the physical symptoms of the disease and support for the psychological components.  We know each client is unique and work to provide an individualized program based on the client’s strengths, limitations, coping ability and family support.
